Endodontics

Endodontics

Quickly understand what Endodontics is in 2 minutes

The soft tissue inside the tooth is called the pulp, commonly known as the dental nerve. It is responsible for sensing stimuli such as hot and cold, sweet and sour, while also providing nutrients to the teeth. When the tooth is damaged by caries, trauma and other factors, the pulp will become inflamed and infected, causing severe toothache. If left untreated, the inflammation may spread to the root tip of the tooth, causing more serious consequences.

Home Dental understands your concerns and provides a comprehensive range of endodontic treatment services with the aim of eliminating toothache, preserving natural teeth and protecting your oral health.

Endodontic Treatment Services at Home Dental

  1. Experienced Endodontic Treatment Team – Home Dental has a team of dentists who are experienced in endodontic treatment and are proficient in various endodontic treatment techniques and are able to develop a personalized treatment plan according to each patient's specific situation.
  2. International dental equipment – Home Dental is equipped with dental equipment that meets international standards, including high-magnification microscopes for endodontic treatment, root canal length measuring instruments, etc., which can accurately locate the lesion site and ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment.
  3. Minimally Invasive Techniques – Home Dental's team of dentists are able to apply advanced minimally invasive techniques to treat the teeth with minimal wear and tear and discomfort to the patient.
  4. Pulp Tissue Preservation – Home Dental not only specializes in root canal treatment, but also offers Vital Pulp Therapy. This treatment, which is suitable for patients with early symptoms of pulpitis, helps preserve valuable natural pulp tissue by removing a small amount of damaged pulp tissue and calming the remaining healthy pulp.

Flow of endodontic treatment services

  1. Detailed examination: The dentist will perform a comprehensive oral examination, including X-rays, to confirm the specific condition of pulpitis.
  2. Develop a plan: Based on the results of the examination, the dentist will communicate with the patient to develop a personalized endodontic treatment plan.
  3. Administering the treatment: Under local anaesthesia, the dentist will use specialized instruments to remove the infected pulp tissue and disinfect it thoroughly.
  4. Root canal filling: The dentist will fill the root canal with biocompatible materials to prevent bacteria from re-entering.
  5. Crowns: For teeth with large defects, crowns are needed to restore the normal function and shape of the teeth.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What exactly is endodontic treatment and when do I need it?

Endodontic treatment addresses infected or inflamed dental pulp (the soft tissue inside your tooth). You'll likely need it if you have severe toothache, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, or swelling near a tooth. Our dentists use X-rays and a thorough examination to confirm whether treatment is necessary.

  • How much does root canal treatment cost at Home Dental?

The cost varies depending on which tooth is affected and the complexity of the root canal system, typically ranging from HK$3,000 to HK$8,000. A crown may be needed afterwards, which is priced separately. WhatsApp us with details of your situation and we'll provide a more specific estimate.

  • How long does the entire endodontic treatment take?

Most root canal treatments are completed in one to two visits, each lasting about 60 to 90 minutes. If a crown is needed to restore the tooth afterwards, that requires an additional appointment. The exact timeline depends on the severity of infection and which tooth is being treated.

  • Is root canal treatment painful?

The procedure itself is performed under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn't feel pain during treatment. Some patients experience mild tenderness for a few days afterwards, which usually responds well to over-the-counter pain relief. Our team uses minimally invasive techniques to keep discomfort to a minimum.

  • What is Vital Pulp Therapy and how is it different from a root canal?

Vital Pulp Therapy is suitable for early-stage pulpitis where the pulp is still partly healthy. We remove only the damaged portion and preserve the living tissue, which can be less invasive than a full root canal. Your dentist will assess whether your tooth qualifies for this option during the examination.

  • Will I need a crown after endodontic treatment?

If the tooth has a large cavity or significant structural damage, a crown is usually recommended to protect it and restore normal chewing function. Not every tooth requires one — your dentist will explain whether a crown is necessary based on how much natural tooth structure remains after treatment.
